记者28日从有关方面获悉,我国第35次南极考察队队员将于11月2日搭乘“雪龙”号前往南极。本次考察的一项重要任务是在距离南极中山站28公里的冰盖上,建设我国第一个南极永久机场。

首先是位置特殊。备选位置位于冰盖。冰盖好比盖在南极大陆上的一床“被子”,但它是运动的。要建永久机场,首先要找到冰盖运动比较均一、运动幅度小的地方。为解决这个问题,一年前我国已在备选地址进行了为期一年的冰流场观测。

To build a permanent airport, we first need to find a relatively uniform ice cover and a small movement range. 其次,冰盖上覆盖的几十米厚的松软积雪无法满足起降要求,需要对积雪进行“改造”。改造流程大概是这样的:先用雪铲、吹雪机对积雪进行初步处理,然后用压雪机压实,再辅以雪犁,将积雪变成摩擦力大的粒雪表面。如此反复,难度可想而知。

与国内机场相比,计划建造的这个机场规模不算大。但它对系统导航、通讯系统、气象保障系统的要求并不低。比如为解决气象保障问题,3年前,我国已在备选位置架设自动气象观测站,积累气象相关信息。

在业内人士看来,作为南极科考大国,我国必须确保自主开展南极活动的后勤保障能力,正因如此,新机场建设意义重大:它连接着我国南极战略需求、科考需求,也能为我国在南极拥有空域管理发言权提供必要条件。

新机场的建设,意味着我国首架极地固定翼飞机“雪鹰601”将拥有南极母港机场,将为我国熟悉南极机场运行体系、构建南极航空网体系、未来我国大型飞机以及多架飞机机队运行提供保障。

业内人士解释,南极飞行需要多国合作协调,我们运输能力的瓶颈在于没有类似霍巴特至凯西这样的远距离洲际航班,这种航班需要大型运输机或者民航飞机执飞。“雪鹰601”飞往南极过程中需要经停英国、美国、澳大利亚等多国考察站,需要外站加油、气象等各方面保障,因为只有1架飞机,我国需要与其他国家的飞机互为应急救援的备份,所以每年都要和众多国家签署后勤保障协议。

10月28日,依据后勤保障协议,部分科考队员将从上海搭乘飞机出发,29号到霍巴特后,30号参加澳大利亚组织的飞行前培训,31号将搭乘澳大利亚远距离洲际航班,当天抵达中山站。
 
On October 28, according to the logistical support agreement, some members of the team will fly from Shanghai. After 29 to Hobart, they will attend pre-flight training organized by Australia on the 30th and take Australian long-distance intercontinental flight on the 31st, arriving at Zhongshan station on the same day.
